Pompeii, with an area of approximately 148 acres, is the only example in the world of a whole Roman city still intact.

But archaeologists have also found many everyday objects such as ladles, spoons, containers, colander, brooches, as well as 81 loaves of bread, figs, chickpeas, beans, wine, salted meat, honey, and so on.
- the same ash has kept hidden and has saved the city from the barbarian invasions after the fall of the Roman
Empire. In medieval times it was very common to destroy the pagan buildings for using marble and columns in oreder to
make the Christian churches.
